Providing an option to unsubscribe allows your recipients to opt themselves out of receiving further emails. This is important for maintaining your sender reputation and deliverability, since these recipients can simply unsubscribe instead of marking your messages as spam.
There are two options for handling unsubscribe functionality:
- Host your own unsubscribe link: if you have an existing unsubscribe form, you can simply link to it in the Matik Mail email. In this case, you will have to track all unsubscribe metrics yourself. Within Matik, clicks on the unsubscribe link will only be tracked as clicks.
- Add a Matik-hosted unsubscribe link: you can add a link to a Matik-hosted unsubscribe link for your enterprise. In this case, Matik will track any users who unsubscribe through this link, and you can view or export these unsubscribe analytics from Matik.
Adding Unsubscribe Links in the Visual Builder
To link to the unsubscribe page in a Visual Builder template:
- Add the element you would like to link to the unsubscribe page. This can be text, a button, or an image.
- Set “Link To” = “Unsubscribe Link”
The selected element will then link to your enterprise’s Matik Mail unsubscribe page.
Add Unsubscribe Links in the Code Editor
You can add a link to the Matik unsubscribe page using the following syntax:
<a href="<%asm_preferences_raw_url%>">Unsubscribe Link Text</a>You can use the autocomplete in the code editor to fill in the appropriate link syntax:
Managing Unsubscribes
When a recipient clicks your unsubscribe link, they will be unsubscribed and redirected to an opt out confirmation page.
Unsubscribed recipients will not receive any messages you send via Matik Mail. This will apply to all Matik Mail emails across your enterprise.
Unsubscribes via the Matik-hosted link will be reflected in your Matik Mail analytics:
- In the email summary metrics, the Unsubscribed rate will show
(number of recipients who unsubscribed on this email) / (number of total emails sent). - In the recipients data:
- When a recipient unsubscribes on a given email, they will be marked ‘unsubscribe’ = TRUE for that email.
- When a recipient is automatically excluded from a send because they previously unsubscribed, they will be marked “Send status = Dropped” with the reason “Unsubscribe”
If the recipient later decides they would like to opt back in to communications, they can adjust their subscription preferences by:
- Navigating to the original unsubscribe link
- Clicking “View Opt Out Preferences”
- And setting their Unsubscribe status to No and clicking "Save Preferences"
They should see an "Opt-out Preferences Updated!" confirmation message, with Opt Out = No, as shown in the example screenshot below. Assuming that's the case, they should be resubscribed to future Matik Mail emails.
