Data Sources Overview

A data source is a connection from Matik to your data. Data sources connect to Inputs and Dynamic Content. A data source can be a spreadsheet, data warehouse, CRM, or API connection, a BI Tool, or many others. See the Data Sources section of our help center for details on specific data sources. Additionally, see this article if you wish to access your data sources through an SSH Tunnel.

Adding a Data Source

To add a data source to Matik, click on the Data Sources tab at the top menu bar and click on "Connect Data Source" or "+ Add New". From there you can select the Data Source type you would like to add and Name the data source. The data source name is only used to identify the data source in Matik and isn't used for connection purposes. Once a Data Source Type is selected the rest of the form will populate with the specific details and credentials needed to connect to that specific data source. Once you have entered all the required information, click on "Add Data Source" to save. We also recommend on clicking "Test Connection" to ensure Matik is able to connect to the data source correctly.
For more information on connecting to specific data sources select the relevant article in the Data Sources section of our Help Center.

Best Practices

Having reliable data sources with strong data governance will improve the End User and Admin experiences. Below are the best practices for the types of data sources you might encounter:

  • Data Warehouse and Databases: We recommend creating a Matik user profile instead of connecting to an existing user to prevent having to re-enter credentials if user changes occur and to limit table ACLs to Matik specific content. Depening on your security requirements, we suggest you create a user profile specifically for Matik that only gives read-only access to the tables needed to create the dynamic content. You also have the ability to force the end user to log into the data source with their credentials before being able to generate a presentation by clicking on the Require end user to log in to access this data source. They will only be able to generate the presentation if they have access to that data with their credentials. See End User Data Source Authentification for more information.
  • Google Sheets: ensure READ access of the spreadsheet is granted to Admins.
